MANZINI – ‘Do not focus on people but focus on God.’ These were the comforting words of South African MTN Joyous Celebration star Andile Thabethe as he noted the poor attendance during the Worship Encounter gospel show.

The show was held at Mavuso Exhibition Centre on Saturday night. Judging by the number of empty seats that were visible to all who attended, there was an expected higher turnout, which was not the case unfortunately on this night.
Thabethe was one of the main artists during the show hosted by Leserato Events.

Close to 1 000 people attended the show when the seats reserved revealed that at least about 3 000 or more guests had been expected.
Nonetheless, gospel music fans who were present did not seem to be affected by the empty seats at all as they continued to dance spiritedly throughout the night.

Andile went on stage at exactly 7pm and sang songs like ‘Namhla Nkhosi’ and ‘Yehla Moya’, which had the gospel fans singing and dancing in praise.  The artist would occasionally join his fans on the dance floor as he performed. He also shared encouraging words with his fans in-between songs. The audience were uplifted by his sermon, especially when he told them that they should not walk with people who remind them of the past but walk with the type of people who are pressing on and moving forward.

The next artist to perform was Nhlakanipho Dlamini who went on stage and sang audience favourites ‘Zime ingunaphakade’, ‘Akekho Ofana Nawe’, ‘Mana Njalo’ and ‘Alikho Elinye’, which are songs that seemed to take the gospel fanatics on a spiritual high.
Soon after Nhlakanipho’s hour-long set was Banele Dlamini, who lifted the mood from worship to praise.

Leserato artist Shekinah Motsa gave a beautiful rendition of the old gospel hymn ‘Hlengiwe’, she moved the audience with her velvety voice and flawless vocals. During the night she was also a backup singer for all the artists that performed.

Nothando Hlophe, who has experienced tremendous success since she won the Women in Praise competition that was introduced by Leserato, was also a much-anticipated act on the night. She went on stage looking lovely in a pale pink outfit and sang songs such as ‘Uyingcwele’ and her popular hit ‘Khulula Ugcobo’. The fans were also moved by her performance on the night.
