MBABANE – While everyone thought the Swaziland Arts and Music Association (SWAMA) and the Association of Christian Artists in Swaziland (ACASWA) had smoked the peace pipe over the upcoming MTN SWAMA Awards, it turns out that is not the case.

ACASWA has since disassociated itself with the awards, warning all gospel artists to participate in them at their own risk.
ACASWA, led by Zakhele Ginindza of the Police Gospel Messengers group, has made it clear that it was disappointed  with the manner in which SWAMA handled the awards, especially after a successful  meeting they had two weeks ago.

It all started when ACASWA heard that SWAMA would be launching the awards. They then wrote a letter to the Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC) raising certain concerns over the awards. One of the issues was that they did not want any gospel award in the SWAMA awards categories as they were the custodians of gospel music in the country.

It transpired that during the meeting  with SNCAC, it was agreed that there would be no gospel category but during the launch SWAMA included it.
The Entertainment Desk can confirm that SWAMA and ACASWA met and the meeting was chaired by the SNCAC CEO Stanley Dla- mini.
During the meeting it was agreed that there would be no gospel category but there would be a category known as the Faith Category.

Surprised

In a press statement sent by Ronnie Dlamini, ACASWA Public Relations Officer (PRO), he said they were surprised when they gathered that the resolutions of their meeting with SWAMA and SNCAC were not followed.
