MBABANE – After a successful E20 000 Poetry Competition last year, which unveiled a new breed of poets in the country, it looks like a bigger and better one is on the cards.

This time it has a staggering budget of E100 000.
This will be first of its kind in the country and a milestone for the arts, especially poetry.

The project has been dubbed Poetry In Motion (PIM), and will target selected rural schools which are not only disadvantaged in cultural industries but also struggle against a very harsh rural landscape.

Pioneered

Hosting the event will be GMAC, a company owned by Macford Sibandze who pioneered the first poetry competition in 2016.
“For now the sponsors of the project will not be revealed until the day of the launch which will be this month end.
‘‘I can confirm though that all contracts have been signed and we are happy to announce the E100 000 sponsorship. This will go a long way in improving poetry in the country as we unearth new talent,” said Sibandze.

The sponsors have left the planning and technical running order of the project in Sibandze hands, who has to present it to them in a week’s time.

Breakdown

This means the prize money breakdown for the poetry competition winner will be announced at the launch.
Sibandze said they were still undecided on whether to include both high schools and primary schools and the criterion of selection but they are working on it.

“The aim of PIM is to spread and broaden the horizon of the arts to all the corners of the country. It also aims at unearthing and developing talent especially in the Lubombo and Shiselweni region,” added Sibandze.
