MANZINI – “We fully supported Umdabula Festival because the organisers showed us proof that all artists had been paid their deposits.”

These are the words of Swaziland National council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Stanley Dlamini.
This was said during a press conference held at the SNCAC offices in Manzini yesterday morning. The SNCAC CEO has revealed that while the preparations  for the festival which ended up being a flop as all artists that were on the festival’s line-up did not attend, they, as an organisation demanded, to see all the commitments of the artists beforehand.

This is the reason why the SNCAC supported the festival.
“We have in our possession contracts and proof of payments of some of the artists who were to perform at the festival.
“After seeing these proof of payments, we were convinced that the organisers were committed to making the show a success,” said the CEO. Dlamini insisted that the only reason that made them commit themselves to support the show was that they had been given all relevant documents and also the fact that most of the artists had been formally booked.

He said they had monitored the event from the day it started being advertised to the final days of the show; December 30-31, 2016.  They noticed that there were a number of things that did not go well and it was one of reasons why they then invited the organisers to a meeting where their intention was to do a post-mortem of the show.

“We were informed that some of the artists that had been paid deposits demanded more money; something that was beyond the organisers’ control.
