MBABANE – While it is every beauty queen’s dream to compete in the Miss World Beauty Pageant after becoming the fairest of them all in her country, the dream has remained just that for Miss Swaziland 2016/17 Linda Hutchinson.

The beauty queen was not among the girls who competed for the prestigious title during the Miss World Beauty Pageant held in December at the Theater Centre at MGM National Harbor in Maryland, USA.
Pageant Swaziland (SD) which is the mother body of all national pageants in the country, together with Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC) had assured the nation that one of their main intentions was to see the local beauty queen participate in the Miss World pageant.
After Hutchinson’s crowning, both Pageant SD and the SNCAC remained silent regarding the country’s participation in this pageant, and now it is all over.

First to be called was Catrien Potgieter, who could not be reached for comment as her phone was off. Several attempts were made to reach the Pageant SD chairperson but her phone was still off for the better part of the day yesterday.
Stanley Dlamini, SNCAC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) confirmed that Hutchinson did not make it to the Miss World Beauty Pageant.

Dlamini cited two reasons as to why they were unable to send the queen to the pageant.  First being that the organisers of the Miss Word Beauty Pageant did not respond on time to the request forwarded by Pageant SD requesting to send a representative to the finals.
“We met with Pageant SD and had a discussion on the possibilities of sending a representative to Miss World.
