MBABANE – The battle of metrical composition and rhythmic clicking of fingers will be the order of the day at the first Poetry Competition elimination process.

The event will be held at the Mbabane Theatre Club on October, 29, 2016.
The eliminations were previously scheduled to take place at the University of Swaziland, Kwaluseni Campus. The organisers of the event Larry Mhlanga and Macford Sibandze said the reason they changed venues was that they wanted to give the aspirants a real theatre experience to prepare them for the future.

They also added that they have organised two schools to be part of the audience so that they can familiarise themselves with audience reactions.
“The youth are very vocal and give true responses to whatever they see, so we invited them to be in the audience.
In this way the poets will have to endure anything from applause, laughter to standing ovations. They must take everything as professionals,” said Macford Sibandze, the director and co-organiser of the show. The public is also welcome to join the poets during the first eliminations round at an entry fee of E20.

Another reason behind the change of venue was that the Mbabane Theatre Club gave them a sponsorship package they could not resist as the organising team.
Sibandze thanked the Mbabane Theatre Club management, especially Sindi Nxumalo for her vision and insight in the arts.

“Having people like Sindi Nxumalo who has deep seated industry knowledge of the arts is an advantage because she knows the conditions the arts deal with everyday,” said Sibandze. The next level of eliminations will have more than 60 poets battling for a part in the finals which will be in two weeks time on November 12, 2016 at the George Hotel.

There are three categories namely; general, themed and Buve and only three from each category will be shortlisted.
The Mbabane Theatre Club doors will be opened at 8am which will be registration and at 9am the eliminations will start.
Sibandze urged the poets to keep time as it will be a long day. On this day the finalists will only get hampers from Clover and Ocean Basket.
