MBABANE – The Swaziland National Choral Music Association (SNCMA) wants to take at least five choirs to the Old Mutual Choral Music Festival finals for the very first time.

In recent years the SNCMA was unable to send more than three choirs to the finals. Mbabane Methodist Church Choir is currently the defending champions in the local eliminations of the festival.

At least 14 choirs are expected to battle it out during local eliminations scheduled for September 25 at Esibayeni Lodge.
The choirs in the large section are Manzini Choir, His Majesty’s Correctional Services Choir, Royal Swaziland Police Choir, Sweet Sounds and the Mbabane Methodist Church Choir.

Expected to compete in the standard section are the Royal Swazi Spa Choir, who are the defending champions, Florence Catholic Church, Sishayingoma, RSP 2 and the Swaziland Mighty Voices.
Bheki Maziya, the choir’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) said local choirs were at an advantage this year  of sending at least five choirs into the finals.

“Most of the well-known choirs in South Africa have competed and their scores are at our range. That is what gives us confidence of winning the title this year,” he said.
Maziya said September 25 is around the corner and it was the reason why most choirs were busy with their rehearsals.
In order for the choirs to do well, he said they had to prepare themselves as early as possible.
