In what was an absolutely amazing event, complete with the glamour, elegance and style that is expected of the Miss Tourism Pageant, Nadia Nascimento wowed the judges and crowd alike, as she was crowned Miss Tourism Swaziland 2015.

The beauty is not new to beauty pageants as she is the former Miss Swaziland Second Princess 2013 and a seasoned model as well. She embraced the cultural and natural beauty that Miss Tourism encourages, as she ditched her long weave and embraced her natural curly afro hair. Nascimento has graced the STYLE pages for a while as a cover model and has always kept a clean record as a Second Princess to Miss Swaziland, 2013. The beauty may have stammered in her first round when the question’ ‘Describe Swaziland in five words’ but she quickly regained her composure. As the night went on to what seemed like eternity for the contestants the top five ladies were finally chosen and as the judges made their choice just after 3am, the beautiful Nadia was officially crowned the new Miss Tourism Swaziland 2015.

Her joy was evident but she remained as graceful as ever as she smiled and waved to the cheering crowd. As HRH Princess Sikhanyiso crowned the lanky, light skinned beauty she would be heard saying “I cannot believe this”, but it was when her mother came on stage that the  new beauty queen broke down in tears. STYLE had to have a quick chat with her amid the celebrations and throngs of people who wanted to take a picture with her.

STYLE: You have made it! Congratulations! How do you feel?
Nadia: I am in complete shock at the moment but so excited. I cannot believe that I am holding such a coveted crown. Miss Tourism is one pageant one can only dream of winning as Princess Sikhanyiso really puts one on that world platform to represent Swaziland the best way possible.

So are you ready for that challenge? To represent Swaziland?
I must say I am confident with the support of my   Princesses Lindelwa Dlamini (1st princess) and Noncedo Mdluli (2nd Princess) I will do well. I love my country, the peace and beauty that is Swaziland is something to be shared with the world at large.

You stammered in your first question, how did you feel as you went backstage after that?
Absolutely horrified!! I was sure that I had blown it! It was just the nerves that had the better of me but thank God I regained my composure and was able to apologise and re-answer. It is really nerve wrecking to be on that stage trust me!!(Laughs)

You have won a Merc E-class as one of the many luxury prizes, has that sunk in yet?
Hey I just won 10 minutes ago and I am still taking it all in (laughs). I cannot believe that Mercedes Benz is mine and I am so grateful to my family who have encouraged me through it all.

Talking about family, we saw you break down in tears as your mum hugged you on stage.
My mother is my pillar of strength. That is a strong woman who has always encouraged me to be the best that I can be. To see her eyes well up with tears just touched me, I broke down right there and then as I realised this queen that gave birth to me is so proud right now. Seeing that joy and pride in her eyes is priceless, I believe all children should strive to make their parents proud, especially if they have worked tirelessly to cater to your every need.

Your message to the nation as their new Miss Tourism?
I will do my level best to promote our beautiful country. I know this title means more than just doing charity work which will be a definite, but it is my chance to show the world that we have a country worth visiting; the sites, the valleys, mountains and cascading landscape all put us in a league of our own. Tourism will be my main focus as I know with more tourists coming in, our economy stands to benefit. Thank you.
As she is whisked off to do more photo shoots and also see her new car, Nadia is a determined young woman who even after not winning the Miss Swaziland crown did not give up on her dreams to be a beauty pageant  title holder one day. As she starts her work as Miss Tourism, STYLE can only wish her well in all her endeavours!

Wouldn't it be more appropriate if they had chosen someone who better represents the demography....someone who looks unmistakably Swazi. Not to be a hater, just saying.
