MBABANE - It’s final, SWAMA Publishing Company has been registered with Sandile Sibeko, Muzi ‘Mozaik’ Ngwenya, Dan Dlamini and Lutfo Dlamini voted in as directors of the new wing within the association.

SWAMA refers to the Swaziland Arts and Music Association which is headed by Lutfo Dlamini as a president.
The announcement was made during the association’s extra ordinary meeting which was held on Sunday at Salesian High School, where over 40 members were present.

SWAMA Publishing Company will focus on representing local artists in other countries, after the association managed to seal a deal with the South African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) which will collect royalties on behalf of the association.

The four directors were elected during the meeting. To be part of this initiative, artists under the association will have to pay a subscription of E200 annually.

According to SWAMA Secretary General Dan Dlamini, the publishing company is already in place as they have even been registered with the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

“We have recently been served with the memorandum of incorporation by SARS, where they stated that the new company registration request has been processed and the company was registered successfully.”

Before, Swazi artists were not paid royalties for their songs played on air and this will come as a miracle to local musicians as they will see profits coming their way.

“SAMRO and SARS will be responsible for collecting royalties in South Africa and then the artists will be paid through SWAMA. This will see the local arts industry developing as even on our local radio station, artists are not paid royalties, although their music is played on the various radio stations now and then.”
