MBABANE – Eswatini Railways (ESR) seeks to engage competent and suitable service provider for engineering services for the design and construction supervision for the Ka-Dake Truck Stop.

ESR, a stakeholder in the transport industry, is offering the trucking industry a truck-stop, which is a designated area used for parking of trucks and for the provision of other related services for truck drivers like a truck washing bay at Ka-Dake, which is two kilometres from Ngwenya (Oshoek) Border Gate. ESR has planned the construction of a truck stop which will be a commercial facility to be used as a refuelling and rest station, as well as a canteen for ready-to-go food for truck drivers. It will be opposite Africa Chicks and next to Parsons Transport.

Purpose

The purpose of the truck stop at Ka-Dake is to service both incoming and outgoing traffic across the border. This is contained in a request for proposal for an open tender that was shared in the Eswatini Public Procurement Regulatory Agency (ESPPRA) website. ESR Corporate Communications Manager, Sive Manana, revealed that they were diversifying their revenue base and as a company, they saw this as an opportunity, since they already had land at Ngwenya. “We have had land in Ngwenya for a while now and this could be put into good use,” he said. According to the proposal, this truck stop will have a parking capacity of about 50 to 80 trucks per day.“This is a multi-phase development plan with room for extension and will have ablution facilities and a canteen, as well as a fuelling port for the trucks. Other additional services such as lodging services may be incorporated at a later stage,” reads the proposal. The implementation of the project, as detailed in the proposal, will deliver a range of outcomes varying from satisfying environmental considerations to operational performance of the completed infrastructure.

Important

“It is very important that all required outcomes are achieved and in this respect this section describes and articulates the requirements to ensure the consultants/designer develops the ‘right’ solution.” The need for the project is to alleviate the truck parking stop shortage at Ngwenya for cross boarder trucks as stipulated in the tender notice.
