4 ORGANISATIONS SHINE IN SADC QUALITY AWARDS

MBABANE – The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has named four local organisations as winners of the 2023 SADC Quality Awards with one individual receiving a recognition award.

The ceremony was hosted virtually by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat on the May 17, 2023. The SADC annual quality awards are a prestigious event which has been running since 2011, recognising and appreciating organisations and individuals who are contributing to quality advancement in all sectors of the economy.

Initiated

In her remarks prior to announcement of the winners, the chief adjudicator, Lucy Mary Marowa, from Zimbabwe mentioned that the SADC Quality Awards was a regional programme which was initiated in 2009 by the SADC Council of Ministers of Trade, who collectively agreed for the establishment of Regional Quality Awards as well as National Quality Awards in the respective member states. Marowa highlighted that the awards were intended to encourage business organisations in the member States to embrace and integrate quality principles and practices in their business processes in order to enable access of their products and services in the regional markets of member States. The programme itself is conducted in such a way that winners at national level qualify to become entrants in the SADC Quality Awards. The SADC Awards programme span five categories which include; Company of the Year, Service of the Year, Product of the Year, Exporter of the Year and Individual of the Year. The four organisation that won the awards were; Municipal Council of Mbabane; M A Dlamini Consulting Engineers (Pty) Ltd; Eswatini Meat Industries; and Stefanutti Stocks Swaziland.

Performs

The Municipal Council of Mbabane was awarded for being an organisation that performs management and administration activities related to municipal services, such as maintenance and cleansing of all public streets and open spaces, safeguarding public health and sanitary services for the removal and disposal of night soil, rubbish, carcasses of dead and all kind of refuse.
The council also promotes the public health, welfare and convenience, and the development, sanitation and amenities of the municipal. MA Dlamini Consulting Engineers (Pty) Ltd. is an Independent Consulting Engineering firm, which operates in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Fire Engineering, Project Management and Energy Management.

Eswatini Meat Industries is a meat manufacturer and marketer of a broad range of products into Europe (the EU and Norway), Eswatini and Mozambique. Stefanutti Stocks (PTY) Ltd is a company that is involved in infrastructure contracts specialising in construction of buildings and associated masonry structures; Civil Engineering construction works, reinforced concrete, geotechnical and marine structures, roads, earthworks, pipelines, and mining services. Stefanutti is also engaged in the installation and commissioning of electrical, instrumentation and mechanical equipment as well as the pipe and structural steel erection and associated works.

Recognition

Meanwhile, Khombisile Dlamini received a recognition Award during the 2023 SADC Quality Awards ceremony as a Quality Ambassador. Dlamini is the Quality and Risk Manager for the Municipal Council of Manzini and registered with the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI/IRCA). Accepting the award, Dlamini said her personal vision was to be the best renowned professional expert in the Quality management field, who actively takes part in making the business world a better place by providing agile expert opinion and advice for better life development projects and technological advancement in the quality management systems space.
