SIPHOFANENI - Icon Construction (Pty) Ltd has been enlisted as the best evaluated tenderer to be awarded the construction of Fresh Produce Packhouse tender.

The tender was issued by the Eswatini Water and Agricultural Development Enterprise, LTD (ESWADE) and a total of 12 companies expressed their intention for the contract. This was revealed by the Eswatini Public Procurement Regulatory Agency (ESPPRA) on their website. The intention to award the company was published last week Friday and they are expected to begin executing it after a period of 10 working days, should they not be contested.

According to the regulator, ESWADE was looking for a company to construct a fresh produce packhouse under the Matsenjwa Chiefdom. The proposed contract price by the best evaluated tenderer was E4 095 199.35. Worth noting, Government has tasked ESWADE and NMC to produce over 30 000 metric tons of grain maize through the commercial maize project. NMC is the National Maize Corporation. This project has the mammoth task of assisting the country to attain its food and nutrition security through the production of 30 000 metric tons of grain maize on annual basis.

Tasked

This tasked is to be achieved through the amalgamation of farmers under Eswatini Nation Land, commercial maize production on the Government farms. For the project to be a success, government has allocated E44 million entrusting ESWADE with the facilitation of maize production in the country through the commercial maize project and a partnership with NMC.
It means farmers and commercial maize producers have been afforded an opportunity to supply government with maize and in turn, government would assist them through loans and further avail a market for them. Also, a construction opportunity worth over E10 million has been availed by ESWADE.

ESWADE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sam Sithole said the funds they intended that part of the proceeds of this loan would be applied to eligible payments under the contract for construction of Ndzevane potable water supply system, including water offtake, water treatment plant, pumping main, water storage reservoirs, distribution reticulation and standpipes.
He said ESWADE now invites sealed bids from eligible bidders for the execution of the works, which includes the construction of a settlement reservoir, treatment plant (vertical roughing and slow-sand filters, supply and install four submersible pumps, design, supply, install, testing and commissioning of a 15 kW solar plant, supply and install two steel storage tanks (550 m3, and 50 m3), and the supply and install 28 km PVC, and HDPE pipework ranging from OD 160mm to 25mm.

As the requesting entity, ESWADE was also in charge for the procuring of the tender as well as its approvals. ESWADE requested unsuccessful bidders to submit an application for review with the agency within 10 working days. “All tenderers who submitted bids are hereby notified that a period of 10 working days is hereby allowed to for submission of any application for review,” said ESWADE.
