EZULWINI – The recently launched MTN Eswatini fifth generation (5G) broadband Network experience comes with new possibilities for the business sector that would accelerate enterprise transformation.

This was mentioned by MTN Eswatini Chief Technology and Information Officer Lindani Dlamini, last Friday during the launch of MTN Eswatini 5G network at Mahlalekhukhwini House. Dlamini said they were pleased with the new development of the 5G initiative in Eswatini and they believe it would accelerate enterprise transformation by opening new opportunities for our customers. “As part of our transformation, we will drive 5G point of contacts (POCs) in the different industries where we expect doors to open for us to POC and eventually commercialize,” he said. He said it would enhance business connectivity by improving business efficiency in producing and delivering goods and services, as well as enable scope for greater innovation and the development of new products.

Effective

“Faster download speeds and lower latency will make cloud computing more effective, and allow for better collection and analysis of big data that can lead to more real-time decision making,” added Dlamini. The IT officer mentioned that the network upgrade will also enable businesses to engage in real-time marketing and customer relations. He said small businesses would be able to do more in less time and with fewer resources. Dlamini added that the financial industry would also benefit from the as the network has the ability to handle larger volumes of data, better analytics and faster speed that could help with fraud detection, and customer segmentation. He said the network would also improve experience and faster transactions. “5G could help to better enable an ‘internet of medical things. It can enhance smart interactions between humans and machines. Health data mining and analytics could grow as the digital infrastructure becomes more powerful, and through predictive modelling, private doctors can better anticipate risks to patients,” he said.

The tech expert alluded that the network upgrade would boost e-Commerce by creating an enabling environment for faster mobile payment. MTN Eswatini acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wandile Nhleko added that 5G will contribute to economic activity directly through network infrastructure deployment. “As 5G networks continues to roll out and improve, a greater wave of economic activity will occur indirectly as the networks enable new and improved use cases across industries,” he said.

Productivity

He said the upgrade would deliver significant socioeconomic benefits through higher productivity, improved cost competitiveness, and better health and safety.  Nhleko attested that Digital resilience creates economic advantage through agility, positioning an enterprise to pivot fast, adapt to fluid conditions, maintain seamless business continuity, and capitalise on market opportunities. “Throughout the pandemic, resilient industries have continuously ramped up investments in digital transformation, pivoting almost overnight with emerging solutions,” he said. The CEO added that efficiencies in 5G network equipment can help reduce carbon emissions from mobile networks and also enable intelligent transportation system that could lead to less traffic and as a result reduce pollution emitted by vehicles.
