Matsapha – The industrial catering company Capitol Caterers celebrated their 20th anniversary in Eswatini last week Friday.

Speaking at a client luncheon held at their premises at King Sobhuza II Avenue on June 24, 2022, Group Company Chairman, Giles King paid tribute to the company’s first ever client, Waterford Kamhlaba United World College. “Waterford College displayed great faith in our capability to provide an excellent catering service to their students, and 20 years on, we continue to do so.” Their unwavering confidence in our ability was the catalyst for us to grow our market share and cement our position in the Kingdom of Eswatini,” said King.

Speaker

Donovan King, Deputy Principal of Waterford Kamhlaba College was the guest speaker. Giles King noted that in 2019 the industrial catering company invested over SZL 7million in new offices, a retail canteen, ration packing warehouse, a central distribution kitchen and three adjoining mini factories. This investment was made as a result of a growing economy, increased business opportunities and commitment to re-invest and expand in the Kingdom of Eswatini.

King emphasised that Capitol Caterers Eswatini is a fully registered and an Eswatini based company and not ‘a South African company operating in Eswatini’. Operating profits and dividends are distributed in Eswatini, which contributed favourably to the company’s financial sustainability and commitment to the kingdom. “The majority of the company shares are held by Swazi nationals. While a minority shareholding is still held by a South African company, which helped originally start the Eswatini operation; this connection is now only to assist with training, dietetic services and management support services,” added King.

Shareholding

King explained that in 2005, a further 21 per cent of the company shareholding was given for free to establish a staff trust. All employees of Capitol Caterers Eswatini are beneficiaries of this trust and receive annual dividends from profits generated. The purpose of the trust is to empower employees and reward them for their service and commitment to the company. King added that, the company employs 104 Eswatini nationals to service its 10 strategic contracts in the education, healthcare, industrial and agricultural sectors.

“We are proud to work with local businesses in the sourcing of all our basic requirements and produce, both consumables and non-consumables. We are inspired by the confidence of the Eswatini people and its economy. We remain committed to grow our market share and further cement our presence in the Kingdom of Eswatini,” concluded King. Donovan King, the Deputy Principal Pastoral at Waterford Kamhlaba, also said they share the pride and joy with the company in the success of having on their campus five staff members received their 20 years long service awards.

He said this means that they started, have grown and developed in the company since that first opening day in Eswatini at Waterford, in what he describes as truly depressing kitchen and dining hall at the time. “They are truly the ‘Flagship Staff’ of your company, and we sincerely thank and salute them, thank You Ntombi Mhlanga, Hlobsile Mdziniso, Gideon Hlubi, Luke Mavuso and Vusi Tsabedze. You are truly treasured and appreciated along with all the other dear Makes and Babes who our community relies on for our success,” he said. Donavan added that, Waterford too, has grown in its facilities and ability to provide menus which were not only nutritious and filling but they were now also menus of which they were very proud to serve their community and visitors alike.
