MBABANE - An Eswatini company, Pastry Bites Pty Ltd has completed its acquisition of Fish and Chips Company (CO.) franchise from South Africa.

The acquisition of the franchise has been completed and a new shop has been opened in Manzini. Pastry Bites has been in food and restaurant business for the past 30 years, they are also the owners of Village Bakery, which is situated in Matsapha. Speaking with this publication yesterday, Pastry Bites Pty Director Naushad Panjwani said acquiring the Fish and Chips Co franchise was a process.

Process

He said they were first evaluated by the parenting company in South Africa before the acquisition was granted. Panjwani said the process was time inclusive as it was done in a short period of time, which allowed them to open the shop, shortly after the process.  “It was a bit of a process to acquire the franchise, but it did not consume much time, which assisted us to open our first outlet quickly,” he said. The director also mentioned that they ventured into this franchise to provide affordable quality fast food to customers. He said a lot people were financially affected by the pandemic, which prompted them to introduce quality products at affordable prices.

“We want customers to enjoy qualify fast food at affordable prices and for them to be satisfied about the value of their money,” said the director. Panjwani also mentioned that the recently opened outlet is eco-friendly as they do not use plastics; he said they use bio-degradable boxes which can be recycled. He said this is in line with the Eswatini Environment Authority (EEA) campaign to limit the use of plastics, which tend to be hazardous to the environment. The director also mentioned that the use of bio-degradable material was less costly for both the company and customers. Panjwani also mentioned that they were planning on opening a new outlet every three months.

Planning

He said their aim was to have an outlet in each of the four regions in the country and they were also planning on having a total of six outlets before the year end. “We are targeting a total of six outlets by December and they must be in the four regions of the country to mobilise our customers,” he said. The director also mentioned that they currently have about 15 employees in the recently opened outlet in Manzini and they would increase the figure to 100. He said each outlet will employ staff of about 15 to 20 people depending on the location.
Worth noting, fish and chips Co. franchise was once opened in the country and halted operations about five years ago, it is now back and under new management, which has assured its growth locally.
