MBABANE - MTN Eswatini continues to improve in the business sector, despite the introduction of a competitor in the telecommunications industry.

The telecommunication giants have recorded an annual increase of 25 per cent in the number of people who use their network and service. The increase will enlighten investors and stakeholders of the company as it has contributed to the increase in profits. MTN Eswatini Chief Executive officer (CEO) Wandile Mtshali yesterday at MTN Headquarters during the MTN Editors Forum Business update said they were currently incorporating new platforms like financial technology. He said there were currently over a million MTN customers locally, with over 700 thousand being active Mobile Money (MoMo) users.

Platforms

“MoMo is one of the businesses that we will be incorporating into financial technology platforms as other services which includes streamline and E-payment,” said the CEO. He mentioned that there was stagnation on the use of voice bundles, but they recorded an increase in the use of data because of the Imfundvo Innovation which was a success. The Imfundvo Innovation is a platform of learning which seamlessly facilitates the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of education courses online. Mtshali said the use of this platform increased the usage of data as many schools locally were using it. He said the second quarter of 2021 was difficult for them as MTN Eswatini due to the limitations and constraints that were introduced by COVID-19.“We plan to increase the usage and availability of our network locally, as we will be introducing new business ventures in telecommunications,” he said.

Introduce

The CEO also added that they would be engaging the ministry of Finance to introduce E-payment systems that will assist government and the public in making payments. He said the platforms would help decrease the conjunctions and the public would be able to pay for government services online. “We want the public to be able to pay for things like passports and certificates online rather than queuing in lines everyday,” he said. Worth mentioning is MTN Eswatini has invested over E5 million towards the MTN Bushfire festival. They have also invested E850 000 towards youth empowerment and entrepreneurship, as well as E100 000 towards digital skills for digital jobs. An excess of E500 000 thousand was invested towards women and girls empowerment to fund projects like Vukani Bo Make. They also spent an excess of E2 million on MTN foundation. MTN Eswatini will soon be introducing 5G network.
