MBABANE – A proposed development at Mzilikazi outside Siteki by Motsa Investments (Pty) Ltd comes with over 200 job opportunities.

On behalf of business mogul Moses Motsa, MTK Sustainable Technologies has prepared an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment report in a bid to usher in the project. According to the report, Motsa Investments is proposing to establish a private industrial precinct on various portions of Farm 145, 146 and 147 in Siteki just outside the boundary of the town. The development shall comprise rental factory shell units that are set to be leased to private local and international tenants for commercial use. During construction, access to the site will be through the junction along MR7 at Mzilikazi. A total of 70 workers will be recruited for the construction period. It is envisioned that 150 workers will be employed during the operational stage of the project. They will include skilled, non-skilled and semi-skilled workers. This brings the total number of possible job opportunities to 220.

“Commercial activities in the vicinity of the construction site will have their businesses widened by the increased demand of their products. “The project will also create a market for goods and services, especially construction inputs which include raw materials, machinery and labour,” reads the document on the section of the impact of the project. The developers have also assured that the establishment of the industrial precinct will stimulate business and entrepreneurial activities leading to increased commercial and water demand in the Lubombo Region. “Moreover, the operation of the precinct requires materials and equipment which will be sourced locally and internationally and will boost the local business enterprises through supply of locally available materials and equipment,” reads the report. The project will start once the loose ends have been tied. They include the issuance of an environmental certificate. For now interested and affected parties are requested to submit comments and/or objections as per the Environment Audit, Audit, Assessment and Review Regulations, 2000. The deadline for submission of comments is August 13 this year.
