MBABANE – The specifications for the Lomahasha-Namaacha (LoNa) crossborder water supply project tender pre-qualification are now known.

Pre-qualification is the stage of the tender process where a number of organisations are pre-selected and subsequently asked to submit a tender. A pre-qualification questionnaire can be used by a client to produce a shortlist of contractors who are likely to be most appropriate for their particular project. Shortlisted contractors may then be invited to tender for the contract. Eswatini Water Services Corporation (EWSC) the employer acting on behalf of the National Directorate for Water Supply and Sanitation (DNAAS) requires suitably qualified and experienced contractors to prequalify for the construction of Lomahasha-Namaacha Crossborder water supply project (Lots One and Two) in Eswatini and Mozambique.

The project entails the construction of bulk water transmission mainly from Simunye Water Treatment Plant here in Eswatini to Namaacha town in Mozambique comprising among others ductile iron pipelines, the construction of booster pumping stations, the construction of reinforced concrete reservoirs and the construction and extension of reticulation networks, and other scope to be provided in the detailed tender stage to prequalified tenderers. “It is foreseen to assign the services to an independent construction firm with proven experience in water and sanitation infrastructure development,” reads the invitation in part. The minimum annual turnover shall be 12 million Euros, which is about E208 million in Friday’s exchange rate.
