MBABANE – A 2010 Toyota Quantum and laptops proved popular among bidders during a major auction organised by ICAP on Friday.

Duly instructed by Mbabane-based ICAP Eswatini, Rexy’s Investments sold cars and office equipment by public auction at the client’s offices in Mbabane.  All the vehicles were runners and were headlined by a 2010 Toyota Quantum and up to three cars of a Fortuner make. The mileage of the quantum was 194 181km and it had a reserve prise of E150 000. After a competitive bid, it was sold for E230 000 and became the most expensive item at the auction.

Also up for grabs was an Isuzu KB240 with a  389 730km mileage. It was sold for E80 000, which was the reserve price.

Also going under the hammer were Dell laptops as well as chairs, flat computer screens and a tent, among other items. The over 40 bidders who crammed the venue were more interested in the laptops, as a majority of them were functional. The reserve prices for the laptops ranged between E1 000 and E2 000, with one of them being sold for E4 700. All the laptops were sold.

Auctioneer Melusi Qwabe had started the bids with the flat computer screens and the bidders had appeared less interested in them.

When it came to the cars, the first car up for grabs was the Isuzu. The three Toyota Fortuners had to be sold through offers, as there were no bids after the announcement of reserve prices. The cars alone raked in over E700 000. The total amount of money made from the auction was yet to be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
