MBABANE - The United States’ Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Far East Textile to export to that country.

Far East is a Matsapha-based textile firm owned by Business Women Eswatini Chairperson Tokky Hou.

FDA is said to be a Federal agency of the Department of Health and Human Services.

The FDA is responsible for protecting and promoting public health through the control and supervision of food safety, tobacco products, dietary supplements, prescription and over-the-counter pharmaceutical drugs (medications), vaccines, biopharmaceuticals, blood transfusions, medical devices, electromagnetic radiation emitting devices (ERED), cosmetics, animal foods and feed and veterinary products.

Order

Far East got its certification at the end of the past month. This means companies from the US can now order cloth masks and surgical gowns from the Eswatini company.

Hou, in an interview, said it was an exciting moment for the entire textile industry, as the newly-launched Vukani Bomake project could also export through her company. Vukani Bomake is simply a decentralised textile project.

“It’s a breakthrough and it comes at a time when we’ve launched the textile projects for rural women,” she said.

Meanwhile, it was double joy for Hou as she was further presented with a Platinum Membership certificate for Business Eswatini, which is the highest level. She received the certificate from Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini.

Ceremony

This transpired  during Business Women Eswatini’s Vukani Bomake partnership recognition ceremony yesterday.

Vukani Bomake is simply a textile project empowering women from the regions. The event was held at Business Eswatini premises outside Mbabane
