MBABANE – South African companies were more competitive than local firms in the race to grab the business opportunity for provision of power quality instruments for substations.

Three South African entities all amassed higher overall scores than the two local firms, which had also shown interest in the job valued at over E1 million. The tender had been availed by Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC).

In fact, tender results issued by Eswatini Public Procurement Regulatory Agency (ESPPRA) reflect that one of the local companies’ technical proposals failed to meet the technical requirement of 70 per cent. This was Advanced Technologies.

The only company which qualified to the financial evaluation stage was Sikhune Electrical, which scored 67 per cent.
The best evaluated tenderer was CT Lab, which amassed a total evaluation score of 83 per cent.
The South African firm, which stands to be granted the job after the lapse of 10 working days to allow for the submission of any application for review, had priced their bid at E1.2 million.

It was closely followed by ACTOM, which scored 78 per cent with its bid price of E1.4 million.
Nextec, whose bid stood at E1.8 million, managed to garner 73 per cent points during the evaluation process undertaken in accordance with the Public Procurement Act of 2011.

ESPPRA emphasised that this was only an intention to award the contract.
“The contract award decision does not constitute a contract,” ESPPRA clarified.

Presented

EEC has also recently presented a business opportunity to consultants to conduct a job evaluation exercise for the financial year 2019-20.
In the expression of interest, it was explained that the main objective of the job evaluation exercise would be to attract, maintain and retain talents within the organisation.

The company also sought to attain as well as continuously protect relevance in a competitive labour market, which provides one of the reasons why EEC seeks to undertake an organisation-wide job evaluation exercise. The EEC has a staff complement of 694 employees with 257 distinct jobs.
