MBABANE – Contractors, engineers and construction material suppliers have been presented with a business opportunity to render their services towards the construction of a new township in Pigg’s Peak.

The township will be located on Farm 3 in Pigg’s Peak, along RP Stephen Road, opposite the Glen Township. The project site area was estimated to be 15.2 hectares.
When Eswatini Housing Board (EHB) was asked how many plots/houses/flats would be constructed and whether there would be any anticipated sales of either houses or plots, Head of Corporate Services Khulile Dlamini disclosed that the proposed number of plots was 297 in total, subject to change based on the outcome of the Environmental Impact Assessment study.

Opportunities

“The number of houses to be constructed will be dictated by the demand for such by the customers,” said Dlamini.
Probed to precisely outline what business or employment opportunities could be presented by the proposed development, Dlamini mentioned that EHB used Eswatini contractors and consultants for its projects and the practice was that the contractors then sourced labor locally or in the immediate vicinity of the project area, which then created employment opportunities.

Shedding light on how the proposed development aligns with the mandate of EHB to provide adequate housing, Dlamini reiterated that EHB has a mandate ‘to promote home ownership among Emaswati and develop human settlement.’

She said the project therefore presents the opportunity for more Emaswati to own homes in line with their EHB mandate and increase the footprint of EHB in terms of its product offering nationally.
Dlamini stated that it was anticipated that the construction of infrastructure could commence in October, 2019.
Commence
However, she said the actual start date would be determined by the date of completion of the Environmental Impact Assessment process which has already commenced.
Explaining other projects that EHB intends to undertake, Dlamini said they were working around the clock to complete infrastructure construction at Woodlands Phase II in Mbabane and construct cluster houses thereat for disposal through sectional title.
She said they also intended to construct two and three bedroom houses for sale at Mhobodleni Township in Manzini and also construct one bedroom three storey flats for rental at the former Ghetto site in Mbabane.
Affordable
EHB also plans to establish an in-house housing finance unit to offer tailor made housing finance products for the Eswatini market.
According to its official website, it was explained that EHB strives to build sustainable Eswatini communities through ensuring the continuous development of prime residential developments.
“We have been marked a trendsetter in the property business, both in the real estate and private ownership of new homes. This follows our success over the years in building affordable yet sustainable human settlements in the urban areas of the Kingdom of Eswatini,” it was explained.
To date, the parastatal manages commercial and residential estates in Matsapha and Mbabane. The Matsapha Estate accommodates 580 families and has a commercial centre within the estate.
The estates spread across the capital city located within a 7 kilometre radius, accommodating 505 families, as well as a newly-developed townhouse development at Mbangweni. The parastatal also manages three commercial centres in Mbabane.
