MBABANE – The Eswatini Investments Promotion Authority (EIPA) has presented contractors with a business opportunity to maintain its assets.

The company which will eventually win the tender will be entrusted with the responsibility to ensure maintenance of EIPA’s factory shells and the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre. In the expression of interest, it was explained that all interested companies would be expected to submit their applications by tomorrow at 12:00hrs.

Proposals

“Late proposals will not be accepted. A postponement of the closure of EOI may be made by EIPA by issuing a public notice to suppliers,” warned EIPA.
EIPA was established in 1998 through the Eswatini Investment Promotion Act of 1998. The mandate of the authority was to attract, encourage, facilitate and promote local and foreign investment in Eswatini.

The authority also promotes domestic and export trade and initiates, co-ordinates and facilitates the implementation of government policies and strategies on investment and trade.

Furthermore, the authority provides a one-stop information and support facility to local and foreign investors and to also advise the minister of commerce, industry and trade on investment policies, strategies, proposals and suitable incentives.

It was also pointed out that at any time prior to the deadline for the receipt of bids, SIPA may modify the tender documents. – It should be mentioned that minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade recently set an ambitious target to reduce the country’s Ease of Doing Business to be among the top 10 in Africa.

Statement

Minister Manqoba Khumalo in his vision statement, mentioned that he sought to attain and sustain an Ease of Doing Business index that would position Eswatini in the top 10 in Africa, and top three in Southern Africa in order to attract more investments to the kingdom in line with EIPA’s core mandate.
This was against the backdrop of the fact that Eswatini recently dropped five places in the Ease of Business.

The World Bank, through its 16th edition of the Ease of Doing Business Report 2019,  disclosed that the kingdom was ranked at 117 out of 190 countries.
This effectively meant Eswatini’s business environment continued to diminish on a yearly basis when taking into consideration the fact that in 2018, the World Bank ranked the country at 112, which was a regression from the 2017 ranking of 111 out of 190 economies.
