MBABANE - SRA has dismissed its Audit Manager - DT for allegedly reducing the tax liability of a company, High Take Investments (Pty) Ltd, from E26 million to E19 million.

Eswatini Revenue Authority charged Friday Mazibuko, who was based under the Domestic Taxes Department, with counts of gross insubordination, dishonesty and gross misconduct.
On the charge of gross insubordination, Mazibuko was alleged to have refused to follow the instructions of his supervisor, Nkosing’phile Mabuza.

The supervisor had required him to gather affidavits and sales invoices from customers who had bought cars from High Take Investments and the Central Motor Registry and have the report discussed with the Commissioner of Taxes and Legislative Unit. Mazibuko was also charged with dishonesty in that he allegedly drew a final audit report on April 5, 2017 and presented it to High Take Investments for signature without the knowledge of Mabuza. He was further accused of unilaterally and without proper consultation or communication with his supervisor, reduced High Take Investment’s tax liability from E26 million to E19 million.

“You did this despite a clear instruction on how to go about in establishing the liability, depriving SRA of the opportunity to collect tax and further causing SRA reputational damage,” read his charge sheet. He was found guilty on these charges. Mazibuko was further charged with gross misconduct in that he allegedly led a team of officers in his capacity as the Audit Manager - DT and wrongly claimed to officials of Nembeza Investments that he had been sent by the Ingwenyama to audit the company. This, according to the charge sheet, was an act of intimidation and abuse of the name of His Majesty the King. He was, however, acquitted on this charge.
