MBABANE – The price war between Eswatini Mobile and MTN Eswatini rages on.

Currently, they are met on a great battlefield of Mobile Money, after Eswatini Mobile launched its own mobile money christened e-Mali. Surely, this will rival MTN Eswatini’s Mobile Money (MoMo).

Analytically, in the long run, there could be no doubt that Eswatini Mobile will at the end have the combat zone remaining in her hands as it offered very low prices of its e-Mali services compared to those offered by MTN Eswatini for same services.
Eswatini Mobile’s prices for all the services offered (money transfers and withdrawals) are 33 per cent cheaper than MTN Eswatini.

the difference

With Eswatini Mobile, when a client transfers from E20 – E125, he or she would be charged E3 which is 33 per cent cheaper than MTN Eswatini’s E4 charge for same. Monetarily, the difference is E1.

For transferring E1 001 -2 000, Eswatini Mobile charges E10 while MTN Eswatini charges E11.00. This also translates to a 33 per cent difference.
When making withdrawals, Eswatini Mobile still has a competitive advantage over MTN Eswatini. The difference between the charges is also 33 per cent.
For instance, to withdraw E20 – E125 using Eswatini Mobile e-Mali, customers will pay E3 while MTN Eswatini charges E4.

When withdrawing E2 000 – E4 000, Eswatini mobile charges E20.00 while MTN Eswatini charges E24.00. The difference between the charges is 20 per cent.
Eswatini Mobile further cemented its superiority in the payment for electricity. It has made this service free of charge while MTN Eswatini charges its customers.

That depends on the transactional amount. With MTN MoMo, a charge that ranges from 1.50 per cent to E10.00 is accrued.
Apparently, the price war between the two started when Eswatini Mobile was launched in July 2017, and the big question was: who was cheaper between the two.

At the time, at face value, Eswatini Mobile pre-paid rates seemed cheaper than MTN Eswatini with their voice calls costing E1.10 and MTN’s voice rates at E1.20 during peak hours. However, MTN Eswatini offered cheaper voice calls during peak hours at E0.60 and Swazi Mobile’s at E0.66.
According to information sourced from Swazi MTN, voice bundles, which are at a discounted rate, one could make calls for only E0.37 per minute.
