LITTLE BIT OF THIS, LITTLE BIT OF THAT

I’ve been wondering about so many things lately, and as an extension to last week’s musings I’ve been contemplating the idea that we can manifest our realities with our thoughts.

We attract certain things by how much power we allow them over our minds.
Obviously this isn’t one of those ‘you’re poor because you haven’t willed yourself to be wealthy’ sort of things it’s more about tapping into your higher mind and realising everything is connected. I must sound like such a quack but whatever, stay with me.

Arts development In eswatini

Earlier this week Notsile Nkambule tweeted, that if we had a proper and thriving music industry in this country then Ngwane Hop originator Diba Diba would be incredibly successful and rich off of his talent.

Pho ke. I love Diba Diba’s music, his flow, the ease with which he raps, the messaging of his songs – I am here for all of it! So I agreed very enthusiastically with Notsile’s tweet.

This tweet also sparked an important discussion about the prioritisation of the arts in our kingdom.
Development isn’t just building roads, it goes further than just putting up beautiful buildings – it demands that you invest in the human capital of the country.
Which will mean investing in sectors where those people can thrive.

The arts is an unbelievably neglected sector in this country,  don’t tell me about boArts and Culture because that then just becomes an indictment on them – isalaphi nine bekunene?

Ngoba isele yona.

Senele Mdluli said the only way the arts would be focused on is if the country realised that you can’t develop a country without developing the people.
And if you aren’t interested in developing the people, do you even care about them? That was easy for me to understand but difficult for me to accept because you want the country you love to love you back. Pho ke.

How great ideas die

I received a message on Wednesday, telling me about an event someone was planning but it didn’t tell me why I was receiving this message.
It didn’t explain what would be required of me besides that the author of the message had seen that I engage in a certain sport which she thinks she could benefit from if I gave her tips.

There was no explaining who this person is, what this project is, what precisely is required from me, what benefit this is to me.
A part of the message said “I think I might need you...so I’ll need your input”. I was perplexed, I had to check in with myself whether I’m really just sitting around waiting on being needed by someone who requires my input.

This is my first engagement with this person and she sullied it by not taking her own vision seriously enough.
Although I wish her well in her endeavour I’m not inspired enough to respond to her message or even to tell her why her message rubbed me up the wrong way.

Sibadzala and we can’t be teaching each other basic etiquette. It’s also about managing yourself and your brand with a modicum of respect, a sliver of ‘I care’.
This also just made me realise how tricky it is to be a creative especially someone who writes; everyone can write but I have an actual degree to be a writer right? So because it is something I am also passionate about I have often been randomly inspired to help people with their copywriting or editing for free.

The moment I began pricing my skills, time and services people couldn’t quite stomach it. This will forever be strange to me. You see us clickity clacking on our computers or phones nisikale ngemehlo. Ekse woah!

Hijacked in kombis
This last musing is here solely because I’ve been shocked since I read about this in the paper.
The poor people who were travelling from Manzini to Mbabane and got hijacked by three passengers of the kombi they were in. Girl! When I tell you my blood ran cold!

There is truly nowhere to run – also if three passengers are suddenly hijacking the vehicle who can you trust? What a horrible experience.
I’m so sorry for anyone who went through that. It also made me start praying for God to give me the means to purchase a vehicle before the year is through.
If we’re getting hijacked in public and private transport really then just catch me in my own ride.
