MBABANE – The business community continues to make strides in the uptake of standards.

The Swaziland Standards Authority (SWASA) and the Federation of The Swazi Business Community (FESBC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in an effort to further promote cooperation between the two institutions, focused on the upliftment of MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) within the Kingdom of Eswatini.

Kirsten Fisher, SWASA Marketing and Communications Officer, explained that the MoU had been put in place to explore possible areas of collaboration between SWASA and FESBC and seeks to identify areas where both organisations may mutually benefit from collaborated efforts.

She said the successful signing of this MoU hopes to, among other things, further promote a quality culture within the Kingdom of Eswatini and the up-take of quality standards, especially among MSME’s.

“The institutions look forward to taking the first step towards implementation through joint awareness sessions focusing on quality, standards and the benefits of affiliation to FESBC among the kingdom’s talented entrepreneurs and MSME’s,” it was explained.
The MoU will serve to promote co-operation in these below areas:

*     To jointly conceptualise and identify priority areas for quality and standards development in line with the ever- changing national, regional and global quality and standards.

*    To align with the call to explore new and innovative ways of soliciting financial support for business development that will be mutually agreed upon by the parties from time to time.
*    To develop a training calendar on quality and standards using various mediums, to discuss and brainstorm sector-specific capacity building needs.

*    To effectively promote best practices in furtherance of business interest of both SWASA and FESBC.
*     To jointly professionalise the field of effective quality and standards management thereby reducing inconsistencies and poor workmanship.
