SPPRA SPENDS E2.3M ON MEETINGS, WORKSHOPS

MBABANE – The Swaziland Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (SPPRA) spent E2.3 million on meetings, conferences and workshops.


This has been disclosed in the authority’s annual financial report for the 2016/17 financial year.
It was disclosed that the authority, whose mandate is to serve as an independent regulatory body, with responsibility for policy, regulation, oversight, professional development and information management and dissemination in the field of public procurement, spent E293 910 on venues, facilities and catering.


Benchmarking visits to undisclosed destinations cost the authority up to E228 361 while internal events (team building) took away E123 153.
A large tranche of the spent E2.3 million was paid up for staff training and development. The exact amount of money paid up for training and development was E864 452.


Under subsistence and travelling, the organisation spent up to E812 000. The least amount of money under conferences, workshops and meetings was capacity building where only E11 276 was used up.


In justification of the expenditure on meetings, conferences and workshops the authority, currently led by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Madoda Mngomezulu, stated that during the period under review, they conducted workshops for high-level government officials and politicians.


It was mentioned that the specific target audiences were the Principal Secretaries, CEO’s of category A entities, Parliamentary Finance Portfolio Committee, the Government Tender Board and the Technical Secretariat.
