MBABANE – The race to rent out election equipment to government for the 2018 elections is on.

Eight companies have joined the contest to be granted the multimillion tender to provide the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) with an election management solution.

convened

During a tender opening exercise convened at the Treasury Department boardroom on Friday morning, company representatives and directors waited with bated breath to hear the prices of their competitors.

The companies which showed an interest to provide the service which will be used in the upcoming elections are: Ummo Nic, Digimage, Afri Tech, Slomoes, Datamatics, Pulse Informatical, MC Tech Systems and Edba Investments.

The required documents, some of which were not submitted by the competing companies (see table below) , were; general receipt of tender document, copy of current tax clearance certificate, trading licence, Form J, Form C, labour compliance certificate, Swaziland National Provident Fund (SNPF) certificate and tender security of E20 000.

From an analysis of the submitted prices by the Business Desk, it should be noted that the lowest tenderer in terms of pricing was Ummo Nic, which priced its rental bid at E6.4 million while Slomoes was the highest at E26.5 million.
It should, however, be mentioned that in the tender advert, it was precisely mentioned that ‘government does not bind itself to accept the lowest or any tender’.

anticipated

The Times SUNDAY yesterday reported that mobile phones were anticipated to play a key role in the National General Elections to take place later this year.
It was reported that the EBC had opened itself to the option of voters using their mobile phones to enquire and apply for specific voting information, instead of physically visiting registration centres for assistance.
