MBABANE – TechnoServe has taken the difficult decision to close its operations in Swaziland as of March 31, 2018, at the end of its final programme.

Debbie Cutting, who has successfully led TechnoServe as Country Director over the last 12 years and has worked with small and growing businesses, farmers and entrepreneurs, said the company had 19 employees.

“We are extremely proud of our work in Swaziland over the last decade.  However, after undergoing a thorough strategy review, TechnoServe global have chosen not to include the country in their regional strategy moving forward,” Cutting disclosed.

She explained that over the last decade, TechnoServe Swaziland had achieved significant impact as follows: trained 11,954 entrepreneurs and farmers they trained 38 131 youth; mobilised US$4.5 million (about E49.5 million) in financial investments and raised US$33.5 million (E368.5 million) in financial benefits including salaries and wages paid for their beneficiaries.

Cutting said they had collaborated and formed close relationships with government, private sector and a network of other key partners.
It should be mentioned that the Swaziland team piloted and participated in unique new approaches including economic development for people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA), renewable energy as well as extensive work in traditional areas of entrepreneurship and agriculture.  The team has been consistently flexible, creative and successful in creating meaningful impact in the lives of the people of Swaziland.

“We will provide a more thorough review of the TechnoServe impact and innovations in upcoming communications,” Cutting promised.
Cutting also explained that she would continue that great work with a new organisation she was setting up in the development space.
