NO FUTURE FOR SWAZI CHILD

Time is one measure of life...Time wasted is life wasted, time saved is life saved,” said Joanne Lewis. This speaks to the time wasted by students, parents, government and other stakeholders in the issue of the Swaziland Christian University. Students are the most affected in this case.

Some have been with the university since inception and were hoping to graduate this year and to start a new life as contributing citizens to the country’s economy. Imagine this, Sipho and his girlfriend, Nonhlanhla completed high school the same year. They got high marks and were both accepted at tertiary.

Relaxing under a tree and listening to the sweet sounds of nature, they start to build their future as per their chosen careers.
Sipho had planned to take a path in psychology while Nonhlanhla wanted to be an accountant.

On October 7, 2017, they attended the University of Swaziland graduation. And guess what – Nonhlanhla was graduating. This basically means that Nonhlanhla, a university graduate, is dating a school leaver who is armed with an IGCSE certificate.

And there is no hope in sight for Sipho and his close to 920 colleagues who are serviced by 52 academic staff and 40 non-academic staff.
Even though they acquired knowledge during the past four years, where would they work without certificates?
Even if they eventually graduate, the qualifications would have no meaning as the university would be nonexistent. Even if it operates under new management as they say in business language.
