You will suffer like Buhle Dlamini, employee told
MBABANE – Erstwhile police officer and founder of the Police Union, Buhle Dlamini, has been quoted as a living example in a High Court case involving UNISWA.
Buhle was allegedly quoted as such by the University of Swaziland’s bursar, Mfanzile Dlamini.
Mfanzile was allegedly threatening Doreen Dlamini, who was an employee of the institution at the time.
Dismissed
She was dismissed after allegations of gross misconduct were preferred against her. It was also alleged that the bursar threatened her if she ever thought of running to the courts for redr- ess.
Doreen further alleged that on May 21, 2010, the Registrar of the University of Swaziland, Sipho Vilakati, asked to take her to a psychiatric hospital in Pretoria for treatment.
"The insinuation here was that I was mentally unstable and this was an attempt to discredit the corrupt practices that I had unveiled," Doreen said.
Vilakati was quoted as having said he would allow her (Doreen) back to work if a certificate that she was fit to work had been issued by the doctor.
Doreen said she was also summoned by the Bursar to his office to give her what she termed ‘brotherly advice’ on the memorandums she had written.
Destined
When Doreen was summoned to the bursar’s office she said the bursar told her that it would not help to play the hero, but, if anything, she was destined to suffer the same fate as the late Dzingalive
Dlamini who was frustrated by government and could not get a job anywhere in the country until his death because he had criticised certain important political figures in the country.
"He also said I stood to suffer as Buhle Dlamini, the police officer who started a police union," Doreen alleged.
Doreen said the bursar told her, in their meeting, that a decision could be taken, whether wrong or right, legal or not, to get rid of a certain individual.
He allegedly said she could end up being a sacrificial lamb.
Doreen said the bursar also made an example of a certain lady, Bong-ile
Dlamini who was fired by Tibiyo. She allegedly went to court to seek compensation, which was granted, but the then Managing Director, Ndumiso Mamba refused to pay her and she suffered dearly.
The bursar allegedly stated that Bongile could not get her terminal benefits for many years until she was granted same by the former Prime Minister, Themba Dla- mini, who is currently heading Tibiyo. "The bursar even clarified that going to court may not spare me the pain and suffering I stand to endure for the reason that the wheels of justice are too slow," Doreen alleged.
