MBABANE – A government structure used for hosting conferences has been turned into a sex den by employees.

The conference facility, Motshane Training Centre, is situated at Motshane a few kilometres away from the Ngwenya-Mbabane MR3 highway.

The training centre falls under the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, headed by Minister Ntuthuko Dlamini.

Facilities at the government conference centre include a conference room, accommodation and training classrooms.

Following an intense investigation, it has been found that some of the rooms have been turned into ‘love nests’.

This was also confirmed by the minister in an interview on Friday.

"We have been told that the facility has been used by people for sex after paying a small fee to some of the employees," he said.

In their investigation, Dlamini said they found that couples would normally book for a few hours in order to satisfy their lust.

He mentioned that they had information on how much people were made to pay for the use of the facilities.

"I would not like to divulge the figures paid by the couples for now because we are still tying a few loose ends," he said.

Money

The minister was quick to point out that the money collected from the numerous love-birds for use of government property was not being handed over to the property owner by the civil servants involved.

In addition, Dlamini said there was a lot of rot at the training centre which has been unearthed by the investigation.

"I would like to point out that I started this investigation in September last year. And a lot of things have come out of it.

"I assure you that the report on the investigation will be made public so that people can see the amount of corruption at government offices," he said.

Dlamini, who was rushing to the Matsapha International Airport to wish His Majesty a safe journey to Equatorial Guinea, said he was not in a position to state if names will be revealed in the document.

Dlamini described the conference facility as ‘top of the range’, adding; ‘it’s a fully-fledged training centre.’

"The reason the facility is being abused is that it is underutilised because most ministries prefer to use hotels and lodges," he said.

With the country experiencing a fiscal crisis, Dlamini suggested that government ministries should utilise the facility because it was cheaper compared to private conference centres and lodges.

Last week, Dlamini busted two employees based at the training centre who were found in possession of state property in their rented houses.

Some of the items recovered from the employees included refrigerators and computers.

The employees are said to have been taken in for questioning by investigators over how the items ended up in their houses.

Senior officer connects electricity illegally from centre to his house

MBABANE – A senior officer at the Motshane Training Centre is said to have connected electricity illegally from the centre to his house.

This was disclosed by Minister of Public Works and Transport Ntuthuko Dlamini during an interview.

"Our investigation revealed that there was an illegal electricity connection from the training centre straight to a house belonging to one of the supervisors.

"This is just one of the incidents of what is happening at the training centre," he said.

Besides the illegal connection, Dlamini said there was an unauthorised withdrawal of fuel from government trucks, adding that smaller vehicles were also abused.

Fingering more rot at the training centre, the minister pointed out that money paid by people who had used the facilities for weddings and parties was pocketed by some of the employees.

Illustrating this, Dlamini said former Minister of Public Works and Transport Elijah Shongwe was never issued with a receipt after paying for a community police workshop he hosted at the training centre.

"This means that government never received a cent from that workshop. The money should have been deposited into a government account," he stressed.

He said he was expecting the final report of the investigation today (Monday).

I’m not corrupt-Ntuthuko

MBABANE – "I am not corrupt and I do not believe in corrupt practices," Minister Ntuthuko Dlamini openly declared.

Dlamini said he wanted people to know that the assets and property he has were not acquired through corruption but through hard work.

"I also want employees to know that, by being corrupt, they are damaging their own reputations," he said.

Dlamini stressed that he would do everything in his power to fight corruption within government, especially in his ministry.

The minister then praised the investigation team, saying it had done a commendable job by unearthing the rot at the Motshane Training Centre and also recovering some of the stolen items.

He listed some of the items as computers, ironing boards, bookshelves, refrigerators and stationery, to name a few.

He promised to name and shame all those involved in corrupt practices at the completion of the investigation.

The investigation started at the beginning of last September.
