MBABANE – The Swaziland National Union of Students (SNUS) will host the first Annual Tertiary Student Day at Mavuso Trade Centre on Saturday, April 21.

This will be arguably the biggest student gathering ever done in Swaziland.

During a brief press conference yesterday, the President of SNUS Maxwell Dlamini said the idea behind hosting this event is to create a platform for students interested in the arts to get a common understanding with other students from other institutions.

"We invite all tertiary institutions across Swaziland to this event which will help break the barriers between students that come from different institutions, said Dlamini.

The organisation feels that students need to understand the culture and should get all the chances required to venture into the arts or entertainment industry.

Some of the organisations that will be invited include the Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture that will also get a chance to witness all the students from the different institutions show off their talents.

Each institution will have to submit a list of the activities available at their institution. Among other activities, the event will also have soccer games, choral music and painters will also be given the platform to display their work.

"More than anything we want people to use their creativity for a better future and these are some of the platforms that we feel will help them improve their talents and learn more about other talented people which may help them gain more exposure," added Dlamini.

...not the same as Inter-varsity Games

MBABANE – The event will not be the same as the annual Inter-varsity Games.

Although this event will cater for all activities similar to the inter-varsity games, Dlamini said the difference between them and the games is that they will not only focus on universities but also accommodate colleges and every other tertiary institution in Swaziland.

"The inter-varsity games only cater for universities and we on the other hand will invite every local higher learning institution and not invite neighbouring countries," said Dlamini.

Another difference about this event will be the fact that they will also cater for drama, poetry, painting, fashion which the inter-varsity gathering does not.

Some of the institutions expected include the Swaziland College of Technology, University of Swaziland, Nazarene, VOCTIM, William Pitcher College and Ngwane Teachers College.

Swaziboy for after party

MBABANE – Swaziboy Entertainment will host the after party for the event.

This was confirmed by Swaziboy Entertainment’s Mthunzi ‘Shadow’ Zwane who said they had invited a long list of entertainers including local RnB sensation Tiyas, rapper Diba Diba, Dungavee, DJ’s Crooks, MBO, Karly B and Derulle to name a few.

"Some of the DJs from the various institutions will also get a chance to perform at the after party and we expect an extremely packed show," said Shadow. Entrance to the whole event costs E30 for students which includes transport, E40 for the public and E50 at the gate for both students and the public. Pre-sale tickets will be available at the various institutions and outlets to be announced later this week.

I think we are supposed to be part of such an endeavour but we are excluded, December we know no matter how far you are you will be coming home for Christmas holidays, please can you look into that. In our respective institutions we have committees and societies that are representing Swazi's please consider us, we are happy with what you guys are actually doing more especially with the proposed new modified scholarship policy, we do want to take part but problem is how can we work together?
