Rural to ramp handcraft showcase

The Rural to Ramp Handcraft Showcase is a platform developed by Mustard Seed Africa to bring together handcraft artisans and designers to collaborate in creating products that are contemporary in design and African by inspiration to appeal to a high-end market.
Founder and director of Mustard Seed Africa, Gail Mawocha, uses the handcraft to showcase to tell the story of the journey of handcraft development, from Rural to Ramp. It tells the story of the rural artisan and creates awareness that handcrafts are an important tool for poverty alleviation, particularly among women at grass roots level.
"Ultimately we aim to generate an interest among young people to consider playing a role in developing handcrafts and textiles and growing this industry," said Mawocha.
The Rural to Ramp Handcraft Showcase which is inspired by sound, movement and folk tales is scheduled for November 26, 2011 and will include music by well known local band Karibu and will bring together the best in handcraft design, entertainment as well as an auction.

Organisations participating in the Rural to Ramp Handcraft Showcase include Baobab Batik, Imvelo Eswatini, Gone Rural, Golden Hands, Tintsaba, Pachipana, Rosecraft, The Phil Thorne Collection, Lillian Jane Jewelry and Quazi Design. A Christmas market will take place after the event where attendees will have an opportunity to purchase unusual Christmas gifts.
