MANANGA – The Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation’s (RESCorp) annual charity golf tournament has blossomed into one of the kingdom’s most significant philanthropic occasions.
Starting as a modest one-day event in 2014, it has raised over E1.7 million to date for community development, primarily clean water access. Speaking at the prestigious Mananga Golf Club, RESCorp Managing Director Nick Jackson revealed that the event’s original purpose was to unite the company’s suppliers in corporate giving. The tournament has since grown into a celebrated two-day affair, extended in 2022 to meet surging demand and now acts as a platform for year-round social investment.
“The prime objective of improving the lives of the less fortunate continues to be realised,” Jackson noted, highlighting that the E1 744 300 raised has facilitated potable water systems in 13 communities, benefitting approximately 4 178 homesteads. Last year alone, projects at Maphiveni and Shoka at Lomahasha, valued at E310 000 brought solar-powered and rehabilitated borehole water systems to 178 homesteads.
The 2025 edition exemplified this generosity, drawing support from 27 companies. Luphohlo Commodities anchored the event with RESCorp’s highest-ever single sponsorship of E100 000, with other significant cash contributions from Amanzi Africa (E30 000), DMR Stainless Steel Suppliers ( E20 000) and Swazi Bandag (E8 500).
The impact was further acknowledged by Mandla Tshawuka, the Minister for Agriculture, who praised RESCorp for its commitment to corporate social responsibility, particularly in tackling water security—a critical national priority.
“From my current position, I would like to extend government’s appreciation for this venture because water is important for our communities,” the minister said, commending the corporation’s consistent efforts to uplift nearby communities.
He affirmed that contributions from stakeholders like RESCorp are invaluable, helping Eswatini in its national goal of achieving 100 per cent clean water coverage. The tournament, he concluded, reinforced the power of collaboration between the private sector and government in driving sustainable development.
