MBABANE – The Premier League of Eswatini and the Eswatini Football Association have formally opposed Manzini Wanderers’ E9.9 million compensation claim.

Following the club’s formal demand for financial damages, both football governing bodies have written to Wanderers communicating that they are opposed to the claim.

When reached for comment, Wanderers’ legal representative, Sifiso Jele, confirmed the development.

“The respondents have filed their opposition to the claim. Our legal team will now convene with the club’s management to deliberate on the subsequent procedural steps,” he stated.

Pat Vilakati, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the PLE, confirmed that the organisation has filed its response, though he maintained strict confidentiality regarding its contents.

“We have complied with the requisite legal formalities and responded to the claims, but we cannot pre-empt the substance of our response to the media at this stage,” Vilakati remarked.

Meanwhile, EFA Marketing and Communications Manager, Muzi Radebe, indicated that the matter is currently under the purview of their legal counsel.

The dispute arises from a formal letter of demand dated May 28, 2026, in which the ‘Hub Giants’ sought substantial compensation following their exclusion from the 2024/25 football campaign. The club had initially issued a seven-day ultimatum for the settlement of the multimillion Emalangeni sum, failing which they threatened immediate litigation. Wanderers, who were sidelined for the entirety of the 2024/25 season, only secured a return to top-flight football this term following the league’s expansion to 16 teams.
