MBABANE – The Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) is still searching for a host nation for the 2025 Women’s Championship.

Late last year, COSAFA announced the postponement of the 2025 edition of the regional flagship tournament, citing the lack of a host nation as the primary reason for the delay.

The decision was revealed in a circular addressed to all participating COSAFA Member Associations (MAs). The regional governing body disclosed that it is currently in discussions with several potential hosts to secure a venue that meets the tournament’s required standards.

The postponement was confirmed by COSAFA Executive Director Sue Destombes, who stated: "We regret to inform the MAs that the COSAFA Women’s Championship 2025 has been postponed due to the current unavailability of a host."

When approached for an update on whether a host has been identified for the tournament—now scheduled for the first quarter of this year—COSAFA Media Manager Lynda Greeff confirmed that the search continues.

“There is no news to report at this stage,” she said briefly.

Despite the delay, the shift in the tournament’s timing has been viewed by some as a strategic masterstroke. Traditionally held in October or November, the new schedule aligns the competition with the continental football calendar.

The championship is now set to serve as a vital dress rehearsal for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which will be hosted in Morocco between March and April this year.

However, local hopes of the tournament coming to the Kingdom have been dampened. The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) has disclosed that it is not in a position to host the event, citing significant financial challenges.
