MBABANE – The official Opening of the Third Session of the 12th Parliament transcended legislative formality, transforming the post-ceremonial luncheon into a high-calibre showcase of artistic excellence.
After the formal event, the luncheon was charged with a unique blend of solemnity and celebration, as a curated roster of local and international heavyweights took to the stage.
The proceedings demonstrated that Eswatini’s parliamentary openings serve as significant cultural milestones alongside their political importance.
The musical programme was anchored by Eswatini’s own Nothando Hlophe as the first performer of the event.
Her presence underscored her standing as a premier Gospel artist in the kingdom.
In accordance with the day’s proceedings, all artists performed two songs.
Hlophe delivered selections from her latest album, including ‘Sithumela Wena’ and ‘Methodist Medley’.
Joining the Gospel ranks was South African musician Dumi Mkokstad, who delivered a stirring performance that resonated with the gathered dignitaries.
The spiritual atmosphere was further elevated by Nomzamo ‘Zaza’ Dlamini, whose command of the stage provided a sophisticated touch to the afternoon’s proceedings.
The line-up balanced contemporary appeal with deep-rooted heritage. The Soul Brothers, the legendary kings of Mbaqanga, brought a nostalgic and rhythmic gravity to the marquee. Their signature punchline, ‘Wololo, Nisekhona’, resonated with many in attendance.
