MBABANE - Sizo Hlophe, a prominent cultural curator and arts administrator, is representing the country in the United States to participate in the International Visitor Leadership Programme (IVLP).

The current project, ‘Driving Economic Growth through the Creative Industries’, highlights Hlophe’s significant contributions to the kingdom’s artistic landscape. As a multidisciplinary professional, Hlophe’s influence spans several key organisations. Through Hlophe’s work with Sound Diplomacy, Antidote Culture Foundation, Antidote Music and the Eswatini Theatre Club, he has been instrumental in professionalising local talent.

His efforts as a photographer and curator focuses on preserving Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage, while expanding economic opportunities for those in the performing and creative arts.

During this exchange, Hlophe will join other creative sector leaders from across the African continent. The group will travel to various American cities to engage with experts and institutions.

A core component of the programme involves Hlophe sharing insights into the Eswatini creative market and identifying potential areas for international collaboration.

The IVLP project aims to showcase the diverse ways arts and culture receive support in the United States. Participants will explore American models of entrepreneurship, innovation and the role of volunteerism.

The itinerary also focuses on government seed funding and policies that protect free speech and intellectual property. By examining these public-private partnerships, the programme demonstrates how the arts can flourish to bring both economic and intangible benefits to local communities.

This initiative provides a platform for Hlophe to study how US practices create meaningful spaces and events by drawing on history and art.
