Manzini – Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa used the official opening of the 57^th Eswatini International Trade Fair to press African nations to seize opportunities in artificial intelligence, digital transformation and green technologies to drive economic growth.

Speaking at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre, Mnangagwa described innovation and science as the foundation upon which African prosperity must be built.

He said emerging technologies are “blurring the lines between the physical, digital and biological spheres,” transforming industries and demanding new approaches from both business and government.

“The ingenuity of our young people, resilience of women and entrepreneurial spirit of our communities should be harnessed to create self-sufficiency and sovereignty in all aspects of our lives,” he said. He added that African economies could not afford to lag behind as the technological revolution continues to redefine the world of work.

Mnangagwa noted that the pace of change in science and innovation offered unprecedented chances for developing nations to leapfrog into new industrial frontiers. He urged governments to enhance the delivery of affordable infrastructure and essential services while enabling digital inclusion for all communities.
