NOKWANE – The country’s anglers are already armed with mainly crank baits in search for the biggest active fish in the world.

Mexico hosts the 10th Black Bass World Championships at Lake Vicente Guerrero between November 7 and 10. Seasoned anglers like Louis van Zuydam, Dave Wright, Derek Hopf, Manny Rego, Mickey Figueiredo and Ward Rijkenberg left for the global showpiece yesterday.

Team captain, Van Zuydam, assured that they were ready to hoist the country’s flag in the fishing championships before leaving for Mexico at Sundowners Lodge outside Mahlanya yesterday. “We’re fired up ahead of the event. We’ve done a lot of research about the hosting Lake,” he said.
Rego, who boasts a record catch of 6.060kg as well as third-time world championships participant, Rijkenberg, were also upbeat ahead of the tournament.

“We’ve one of the best teams to be selected for the event. We can’t ask for more,” said Rijkenberg.
The country won a silver medal in the 2012 edition in Venuezela. Reserve angler Anne Figueiredo is already at the host country.
The team was mainly sponsored by Inyatsi Construction and Swazi Plaza Properties. The costs of the trip are at E365 000, as reported earlier this month.
