MATSAPHA – Junior tennis players’ hard work has earned them a chance of representing the country in the Southern Africa Junior Championships.

The winners are those who excelled in the Swaziland Sugar Association (SSA) Junior Championships held on Saturday at the University of Swaziland (UNISWA) courts. They will be attending the Southern African championships from January 2 - 11 in Gaborone, Botswana.

The country will send a squad consisting of the under-16, 14, 12 and 10 in boys and girls.
The Swaziland National Tennis Association (SNTA) Development Officer Nqaba Mkhaliphi said they selected the squad on Saturday during the finals of the SSA held at UNISWA courts.

“We are happy that the squad will be comprised of players from the three regions that took part in the SSA champions. The regions are Manzini, Hhohho and Lubombo,” he said.

The squad includes Owenkhosi Khumalo, Fundiswa Gamedze, Lwethu Makhathu, Zwakele Dlamini, Tandzile Dlamini, Tibusiso Ntshangase, Ziyanda Dlamini, Tiyandza Dlamini, Thandolwethu Simelane and Mpendulo Gama.  The other two squad members are yet to be confirmed.

“Some players from Mhlume failed to show up due to lack of transport,” Mkhaliphi said.
