EZULWINI – October being a breast cancer month, the country’s Oyama karate stars could not miss out on the opportunity to also create awareness about the deadly disease.

They took part in an awareness walk and mountain hiking on Saturday, hitting two birds with one stone in the process.
The karate artists who, among them, was the Oyama World Cup female quarter-finalist Nomvuyo Nxumalo and participants Tembuso Dlamini and Sensei Mzwandile Ngwenya, an official, used the walk and mountain climbing as part of their training ahead of the upcoming Oyama Champ of Champs international tournament next month. At the same time, they created awareness on the disease.

Others who participated in the walk are Wandile Motsa, Rodney Lansberg, Nathi Mnisi and Louis Siquella. The walk started at Woodlands Restaurant in Ezulwini round Mantenga Lodge, past the Theology institution and back to the starting point – in a bid to create awareness about breast cancer, which claims lives of many around the world if untreated.

“It was an event for a good cause hence we decided to take part as anyone who can be affected by the cancer so it’s important we all know and treat it seriously. “For us it was also a form of training as we have a big tournament next month involving our partners, South Africa,” said Sensei Ngwenya.

Meanwhile, he encouraged their artists and other sportsmen to take advantage of such events as they were for everyone and also helped teach athletes about other things that matter in life to stay healthy other than just sport.
