A DREAM COME TRUE FOR OVER 290 HHOHHO TEAMS
MBABANE - They can now live their dream. Over 290 soccer teams affiliated under the Hhohho Regional Football Association (HRFA) 13 Zonal Leagues will witness the upliftment of their sports ground following the donation of equipment worth E100 000 from their mother body.
Many of the teams were playing in sports grounds that had wooden goalposts, most of them without soccer nets.
Referees had no uniform as most of them alluded too yesterday that in some of their league games, the whistlemen officiated in their casual wear much against FIFA expectations.
The HRFA executive chaired by Comfort Shongwe presented the 13 leagues with four soccer balls each, two sets of nets, five litre paint for their goalposts, latest version of the substitution boards, corner flags and referees uniform in what was a first of its kind gesture.
Most interestingly, was that the equipment was funded wholly by the HRFA through the affiliation and registration fees from the 296 teams competing in the leagues.
At an event held at Sigwaca House yesterday afternoon, Shongwe said the equipment was aimed at improving the standard of the game in the regions.
“We want to see a massive facelift of the sports grounds through the painted goalposts with nets, corner flags, soccer balls and referees uniform to inspire players. We know that most of you see the substitute boards in television and all we are doing is bringing that closer to you so that it can inspire you to even do better,” he said.
Some of the clubs also paid tribute to the executive committee for the donations which they said was the first of its kind.
