EZULWINI – The DHL Africa as One World Cup rugby tour proved to be an exciting draw card for some schools as Swaziland’s potential rugby greats were provided with the golden opportunity to play against South Africa’s rugby legend Frikkie Welsh.

The amazing event which saw families of DHL staff and their clients come together to celebrate rugby as a build-up to the World Cup 2015 in London was held at the Ezulwini Sun Sports Ground on Saturday.

The schools are Enjabulweni High School, Usutu Primary and SOS Children’s Village who all brought teams to play rugby matches. Enjabulweni had a team called Griffins while the other two stuck to their names and they faced Welsh who featured for the youth coaches’ team.

The pupils lost the match in the end but it was tightly contested as they were also able to score several tries.Welsh said it was amazing that DHL involved schools and youth coaches as that is where the future of the sport lied.

“Swaziland has a bright future and seeing these enthusiastic children here shows they take the sport seriously and want to learn more about it,” he noted.

Meanwhile, one of the Griffins players Faizer Goolam said, “This is one sign that the sport is taken seriously here and for us to play with a big name in the game like Welsh is encouraging. The future is bright if such top names can come to Swaziland and give coaching clinics.”
