MBABANE – As the country will play host to a FIFA Futuro III Referees Instructors’ Course from tomorrow, FIFA Head of Refereeing Tressaco Fernando touched down yesterday through the King Mswati III International Airport at Sikhuphe.

National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) CEO Frederick Mngomezulu announced the regional course yesterday at Sigwaca House during a press briefing.

“Because as a country we have improved in our football, we felt we were ready to host big events, hence we’ll be having the FIFA Referees Instructors Course on Thursday to next Tuesday at the Royal Swazi Sun Hotel,” Mngomezulu announced.

Course

He said the course was so huge that it will be conducted among others, by the FIFA Head of Refereeing worldwide Tressaco Fernando from Spain who landed in the country yesterday. Mngomezulu noted that Tressaco was among those who were first to land at the KM III Airport which became operational as of yesterday.

He said most of the participants were expected to arrive today and will be booked at the Royal Swazi Sun Hotel including the six that will represent the country as hosts otherwise each country is allowed three representatives.

Focus

He said the course will focus on two aspects, being the technical part (inside the field of play as a referee during a match) and the physical fitness category.
He named the country’s representatives for the technical part as William Shongwe, Wallace Mabuza, Mangaliso LaNgwenya and Gilbert Dlamini.
For physical fitness, the representatives are Dumsani Hadebe and Thoba Mazibuko who is new but was allowed by FIFA to participate.
He explained that Mazibuko has worked for Sihlangu and Mbabane Swallows but was now also involved in athletics and schools games.

“The official opening will be at 9am on Thursday (tomorrow) at the host hotel while the closing was scheduled for next Tuesday,” he said.
Among other people, there is also England’s Steve Bennett who is also in the country already otherwise they expected 30 participants for the course.
