MBABANE – Sacked Manzini Sundowns coach, Christopher ‘Gazza’ Tembo left the country yesterday empty-handed, as the ‘Kappa Kappa’ ensemble failed to compensate him for breach of contract.

Tembo had signed a one-year renewable contract with the Manzini outfit, which was supposed to expire next year.
According to the coach, he was entitled to about E30 000. He said the contract compelled the club to pay him 10% of his E8 000 monthly salary for about twelve months, which then translates to E9 600. He said he was also entitled to severance pay of about E20 000, but has decided to let it all go.

Tembo, in an interview, shortly before departure, said he will not take any action against the team for showing him the door hardly two months into his contract. He left the country by road through the Ngwenya Border Gate.
“While it is true that I am entitled to some sort of compensation as they breached the contract, I will not take any action against the team. I also wish them well in their future endeavours and hold no grudges against the team.

Nature

“I have been in football for some time now and I understand such things happen. It is the nature of the game and as a coach I hold my head high. We probably did not see things in the same light with the team and that happens. There is no reason to be bitter,” said the Zambian strategist.
He has been shown the exit door at Sundowns after only four games at the helm, in which he could not manage a single win. This prompted Sundowns to appoint Musa Mamba and Penuel Malinga as caretaker coaches.

Manzini Sundowns PRO Muzi Matsenjwa said they were uncomfortable discussing the issue in public. He however insisted they did not owe Tembo.

“In as much as we do not want to talk about contractual issues through the media, we would like to come out clear that he was just on probation at the moment, which was supposed to be for three months.

“He was entitled to his monthly salary and we duly gave it to him. As we speak we do not owe each other. It was an amicable decision. He also did not voice out any grievances. He remains a good associate of Manzini Sundowns and we are positive that in future he will be recommending Zambian players to the club,” said Matsenjwa.
