MBABANE – Mbabane Swallows suffered a serious scare when first choice goalkeeper Jim Knowledge was attacked by a mysterious illness yesterday morning.

The agile Zimbabwean shot stopper had to miss both the team’s morning and afternoon training sessions at the Prince of Wales Ground due to the illness.
He complained of a severe headache, which made it impossible for him to train with the rest of the players being taken through their paces by trainer Siyabonga Bhembe. Knowledge also complained that his vision was blurry.

Swallows trainer Bhembe said they were shocked by the player’ sudden illness, as he did not show any signs of being unwell in the past three days at the team’s training. The Mbabane giants had to conduct the sessions only with goalkeeper Mbongeni Motsa.

“It is very difficult under the circumstances because as you can see, we had to use a striker to man the poles because we only have two goalkeepers in Mbongeni and Jim. We are, however, hopeful that he will recover on time for Sunday’s game.
“I am positive that our team doctors will attend to him and then we will take it from there. At the moment I would not be sure whether he will play in the game or not,” he said.

Zimbabwean striker Vibes Matanda was the makeshift goalkeeper during the session and was unsurprisingly a comedy of errors, as he was beaten easily. Reserve goalkeeper, Motsa, on the other hand, was at his element on the opposite end of the pitch pulling off some brilliant saves throughout the session.
