SOCCER STARS FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

MBABANE – The Special Olympics Swaziland team to represent the country in the World Games will be selected today.


The association will stage National Athletics competitions at Somhlolo National Stadium, where soccer stars who include Manzini Sundowns’ pair of Darren Christie and Mlamuli Nkambule,  as well as Mbabane Swallows midfielder, Wonder Nhleko, are expected to attend. The championships, which will double as preparations for the World Games to be held in Los Angeles, USA next year, will start at 8:30am. 


“Four athletes will be selected on merit during the event. Six schools have been invited to participate during the event.
They include Entuthukweni, Embasheni, Ekwetsembeni,  St. Joseph’s, Ekwelulameni and Enjab”ulweni schools.


 Over 360 children and young persons are expected to participate during the event,” said Special Olympics National Director Mduduzi Shongwe. “Invited guests to the event are the director of sports, his counterparts from the Department of Social Welfare, Special Education, and Coordinator – Disability Unit.”  The event has been sponsored by Inyatsi Group of Companies, Mbabane Golf Club, Swaziland Building Society, Special Olympics International and Kapson Investment.
